TINDEG NU KABABAYAN: A MEANINGFUL CONVERSATION ON ENDING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.”

Diane Mariechild

Women plays a great role in the society. As part of the vulnerable sector, women needs to work hard to make sure that they are equipped with the knowledge, skills and abilities to make it as a competent human being. It is but a sad fact that our women in the communities, most of the time, need to face their battles alone solely because of the inavailability of safe spaces for them. The already vulnerable women became more exposed to violence because of the status quo.

Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports from those on front lines, have shown that all types of violence against women and girls, particularly sexual violence, has intensified. This known epidemic is growing amidst the COVID-19 crisis and we need a global collective effort to decrease the numbers. Congruently, Bangsamoro women who are victims of direct/physical violence’s inherent and adopts to the Filipino culture, that it is a shame to speak up since such incidents “taint” their family’s reputation.

Moro People’s CORE together with its partner organizations believes that the best time to talk about violence against women is NOW! TINDEG NU KABABAYAN formally launched last month was designed to acquaint women on the policies concerning them at the same time give them safe spaces to open up their plights as mothers and leaders in the community.

Two successful sessions was conducted last month and today marks the culmination program of the meaningful community sessions on violence against women and orientation on Bridging Leadership for Participatory Governance. Today’s gathering paved the way for the Bangsamoro women to craft their meaningful plans and activities on ending VAW, orientation BL4PG and Awareness on COVID 19 that would be implemented in their respective areas.

This continuous process of engaging our local communities in solving their own issues and problems adheres to our mission on reaching out and mobilizing our communities for a systematic change.

Moro People’s would like to thank its partners all through the conduct of this activity. To Action Against HUNGER-RISE CSO-LGU Project (Kidapawan Satellite Office), National Organization of API Ending Sexual Violence (IOWA, USA), Bangsamoro Youth Ambassadors (BYA) and Barangay Local Government of Cuyapon, sukran and may we continue to empower our communities.

Indeed, women struggle is our struggle! Mabuhay ang Kababaihan!
