Moro People’s CORE is writing this letter to raise our collective voice in condemnation of the ghastly act of hate that took the lives of 9 Muslim men in Kabacan, Cotabato on August 29, 2020 around 12:10 pm.
This brutal act reminds us that our efforts in building just peace and in educating our communities should be intensified. We call our place a peaceful place to live in, yet gun violence is happening right in front of us. Let us not wait for the next violence to happen.
When can we truly hear and identify the deathly sound of a gun? Will this be when the sweet sounds of our people are already vanishing from spreading? When can we truly see and define what brutality is? Will this be when it’s already blinding us from seeing the beautiful scenarios of life? Do not treat this incident like a nightmare that has just passed. Do not ignore it like a normal clapper of the day. Mean it as one that means.
We clamor people who know how to read political science that surround us. This is one of the best times we can create a maneuver. It is a call for anyone of us to make a promise that this gun violence is an ultimatum to exterminate, and not a culture to enliven. We have the clout.
Congruently, we are urging our local leaders both in Cotabato Province and in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) to conduct a thorough investigation on this brutal incident and bring the perpetrators to justice. We stand by the families of the victims in grief and sadness over the unjustified and utterly inhuman tragedy.
May justice prevail!
