It is a common understanding that Moros and Indigenous People are left behind when it comes to empowerment geared towards societal change because of lack of education. Literacy and Numeracy is a project under the Cultural Arts Enhancement, Education and Literacy Program of MPCORE designed to empower Bangsamoro women through a modified literacy and numeracy classes and advocacy campaigns seeking to build up Bangsamoro women’s meaningful participation in the society.
Moro People’s CORE is all set for the opening of Literacy and Numeracy classes on Monday, 17 August 2020 at Barangay Cuyapon, Kabacan, Cotabato. A total of ninety-eight (98) Bangsamoro women from Lower Silangan, Upper Silangan and Sitio Malimo signify their interest to be part of the learners during the enrollment period from August 1 to 7, 2020.
A hundred percent attendance of learners will be expected on the opening of classes and so the Literacy and Numeracy teachers prepared an exciting come back activities for them. Measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and proper health protocols during LitNum classes will also be discussed. Additionally, school supplies will be distributed to the learners from the collected monetary and in kind donations through our “Adopt A LitNum Learner Campaign”.
MPCORE deemed it necessary to realize this project specially that face to face classes in schools was indefinitely suspended and a modular type of education will be applied, thus, facilitation of parents is in truth needed. The fact that mothers are not capable of writing and reading are another barrier to a well-facilitated education of children during this pandemic. Moreover, this initiative will pave way to a more significant opportunity for Bangsamoro women.
